Frank Kupper is assistant professor of science communication at the Athena Institute, VU University Amsterdam. He is a biologist and philosopher. In 2009 he obtained his PhD degree on the development of ethical reflection tools in order to articulate underlying values and facilitate a reflexive dialogue on animal biotechnology in the Netherlands. Also his current research focuses on reflexivity and learning, and particularly the potential role of playfulness, in science-society interactions. Furthermore, he coordinates, and teaches in, various courses in the field of science and technology studies, ethics and science communication. He has played a key role in the development of the current master specialization ‘Science Communication’ (within various master programs in Natural and Life Sciences). He is also the coordinator of the Science Communication Msc program. In Synenergene, he acts as the co-leader of Platform 1 and works on the further development of two playful reflection tools: the Frame Reflection Lab and the Theatrical Debate. He contributes to the online communication of Synenergene in the application of TransLearning, a hybrid tool for supporting collaboration and mutual learning amongst the project partners and potentially beyond.
