University of Padova

The Centre on environmental, ethical, legal and social decisions on emerging technologies (CIGA) is a multidisciplinary research centre exploring the links between technoscientific innovations, society, policy and regulation.

The CIGA is based in Rovigo and is promoted by the Department of Philosophy, Sociology, Education and Applied Psychology and by the Department of Political Science, Law, and International Studies of Padova University. The CIGA is established thanks to an operating grant from the Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Padova e Rovigo. It is located in the buildings of the European Center for the Sustainable Impact of Nanotechnologies (ECSIN) and works in the context of Veneto Nanotech Scpa, the Veneto research cluster on nanotechnologies.

The main tasks of the University of Padova consist of Co-Lead of Plattform 4 “Research & Policy” and of participation to Platform 2 "Public science & Participation" with a focus on the ELSA issues of synthetic biology.
