ITAS/KIT and University of Ljubljana at the SYNBIOREG symposium in Brnik, Slovenia

Christopher Coenen from ITAS/KIT and Franc Mali and Toni Pustovrh from the University of Ljubljana attended the SYNBIOREG symposium in Brnik, Slovenia. Their presentations on the ethical, legal and societal implications of synthetic biology were included as a segment on Synbio and Society, while the main part of the symposium focused on complex genetics, bioinformatics and industry in the scope of synthetic biology. The societal segment generated a lively debate among the international participants on issues ranging from public perceptions and attitudes to intellectual property rights and governance strategies. We hope that such interactions with scientists and researchers working in the field of synthetic biology will contribute to a richer interdisciplinary debate on the responsible development of the field.
