The Austrian Academy of Sciences (AAS), a publicly funded independent research organization, is the leading organization promoting non-university academic research institutions in Austria. More than 1100 employees carry out extensive research projects. Highly qualified researchers from Austria and abroad are included among the members of the AAS and guarantee the „community’s“ excellence in the sciences and the humanities.
The Institute of Technology Assessment (ITA) is a research facility of the AAS. ITA performs interdisciplinary scientific research at the interface of technology and society. ITA’s work focuses on development trends, societal consequences and options for the shaping of technological change. The research results provide the basis for giving advice to decision-makers. ITA acquired expertise in a number of international research projects within programs of the European Union as well as for international organizations such as OECD and UNIDO.

The ITA monitors the Action Filed “Involving the Public” and is member of the Organisational Team of Platform “Art, Culture & Society”.
