On July 2-3, 2015, immediately before the theatre performance weekend, the second Paris-Freiburg workshop on societal perspectives on synthetic biology, “Redesigning Synthetic Biology – Towards a Constructive Critique of a Technoscience”, will be held in Freiburg. The closed workshop is jointly organised by the Department of Medical Ethics and the History of Medicine, University of Freiburg, Germany, and the Department of Philosophy, Université Paris I, France.

The workshop brings together scholars from the humanities and the social sciences who have taken a stance on synthetic biology. It will be followed by a performance and lecture weekend at Freiburg theatre on synthetic biology. Students of, among other subjects, philosophy, social and political sciences, and biology present and discuss the results of a 4 month process of intellectually and artistically engaging themselves with synthetic biology.
