SYNTHETIC BIOLOGY: BIOFICTION AND BIOREALITY

SYNTHETIC BIOLOGY: BIOFICTION AND BIOREALITY

Date:
09/12/2016 (All day)

The Synenergene partner University of Ljubljana is organizing the public event SYNTHETIC BIOLOGY: BIOFICTION AND BIOREALITY, which will combine presentations by experts with a science art film segment from the Biofiction Science Art Film Festival. The one-day public event and meeting will be organized at Faculty of Social Sciences (University of Ljubljana) in Ljubljana on Friday, December 9th 2016. The event will bring scientists and experts in the field of synthetic biology together with the interested public and stakeholders from Slovenia and the neighboring countries. The experts will present various aspects and issues connected with the development of synthetic biology, which will be debated with the public. The shared discussion space will also enable an open exchange of views between the stakeholders and the public on the perception and expectations of the public towards synthetic biology, and the responsiveness of scientists to those perceptions and expectations. The event will also discuss the role and impacts of using science and (bio)fiction to present issues posed by synthetic biology. In this way, we hope to stimulate greater awareness and greater debate about the opportunities and challenges of synthetic biology in the region.
