Synbio at German Protestant Kirchentag

Date:
04/06/2015 - 15:00 to 18:00

The German Protestant Kirchentag, a biennial festival attracting around 100.000 participants in its various events, this year hosts a panel on synthetic biology. Under the theme "Wir schaffen das. Leben aus den Labors der synthetischen Biologie" (We make that. Life from the laboratories of synthetic biology), scientific experts and ethicists debate about synbio and its ethical and societal implications. The panel will be in German language and moderated by Christiane Grefe (Die Zeit) and Thorsten Moos (FEST Heidelberg). A public's advocate will facilitate the interaction with the Kirchentag visitors.

Speakers include:

  • Petra Schwille (Max Planck Institute of Biochemistry, Martinsried)
  • Alfred Pühler (Center for Biotechnology, Bielefeld)
  • Arnold Sauter (Office of Technology Assessment at the German Bundestag, Berlin)
  • Michael Bölker (Marburg University, Marburg)
  • Joachim Boldt (Institute of Ethics and the History of Medicine, Freiburg)
  • Theresia Bauer (Minister of Science, Research and the Arts of the State Government of Baden-Württemberg)
  • Wolf-Michael Catenhusen (Member of the German Ethics Council, Berlin)
