The Center for Philosophy of Science organizes this workshop to look at "the new engineering paradigm in biology". The focus is especially on engineering practices and epistemological perspectives and how they differ from what is usually associated with established biological approaches. It covers fields such as integrative systems biology, biomedical engineering, and synthetic biology.

Keynote Speakers include

  • Tarja Knuuttila (Department of Philosophy, University of South Carolina)
  • Eberhard Voit (Department of Biomedical Engineering, Georgia Institute of Technology and Emory University)
  • William Wimsatt (Department of Philosophy, University of Minnesota)
