The European Commission has asked the three Scientific Committees for their opinion on various aspects of Synthetic Biology. For the third aspect, that of risks to the environment, the committees have now prepared a preliminary opinion and ask stakeholders for feedback in a public consultation:

The deadline for comments is 16 September 2015. Comments can only be submitted online via the submission form, comments submitted by email or post will not be taken into account.

The opinion is the third one on Synthetic Biology prepared by the Scientific Committees. A first one dealt with the definition of Synthetic Biology and was published after public consultation in September 2014. A second one dealt with risk assessment methodologies and safety aspects of Synthetic Biology. It was also subject to a public consultation and published thereafter.
