It’s Jamboree time! iGEM 2014 in Boston has started

Thursday, October 30, is the first day of the iGEM competition’s final stage, the Giant Jamboree. More than 2.500 participants are expected to join this years’ event at the Hynes Convention Center in Boston, MA, to show the results of their student projects, to meet with other synbio researchers and to engage in workshops and panel discussions. And also to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the iGEM competition!

SYNENERGENE is proud to collaborate with eight iGEM teams, helping them to work on the ethical, societal and environmental implications of their projects. The collaboration resulted in the design of application scenarios as well as in so-called “techno-moral vignettes”. These are stories that stimulate reflection about the wider impacts of synthetic biology. What is more, several workshops are offered to iGEM participants at the Boston event:

  • Looking ahead
Future scenarios as a useful tool for Policy and Practices?
    Room 202 - Friday, Saturday and Sunday - 12:30 pm - 2:00 pm

  • Frame reflection
Turn your world view upside down!
    Room 202 - Friday and Saturday - 4:00 pm - 5:30 pm

The funding programme as well as two workshops strengthen the idea of responsible research and innovation at the iGEM jamboree, an idea that is also present in the work on “human practices” of iGEM teams as well as in the new “policy and practices” track introduced this year.
